Interview with board member Joƫlle
How did you first hear about IFIL
I met Lukas Wegmüller in spring 2007 in occasion of the photo shooting for the elections of the Swiss Parliament. He then told me about the IFIL study trip to Israel and Palestine in summer 2007 and I immediately applied for it!
How did you become a board member of IFIL
After the organization of our own study trip, Andreas Graf (former board member of IFIL) invited Lukas and me to have a coffee at the Tibit’s in Berne. Looking back I cannot really say whether it was the good coffee that was convincing or simply the fantastic idea of IFIL that was so persuasive. Anyways, I said yes when he asked me to become a board member of IFIL.
What was your best travel experience?
My best travel experience? Hard to say, there are too many of them. But the study trip to Israel and Palestine probably is one of the most marking experiences. When I look at the photos of the trip I re-experience the same strong feelings… Another very good experience was my year in Paraguay as an intercultural exchange-student.
What is your worst travel story?
Three weeks at a friend’s place: very nice and friendly family, beautiful landscape –but unfortunately definitely not the same attitude towards the meaning of traveling as I have.
Best travel music?
Chansons from France.
Where do you want to go next?
I’d love to go to Africa…
Why participate in an intercultural study trip with IFIL?
No other trip offers you this kind of insight in a country or topic! The unique form of meetings between IFIL and key actors and locals that offers you the rare possibility of getting answers to your own questions and of understanding the country or its main problems in another, much deeper way than it is ever possible via Swiss mass medias.
