UN New York 23.08.2009 - 30.08.2009

Daniel Walter

I am about to finish my Bachelor in International Relations at the University of Geneva this summer, though currently enjoying my Erasmus exchange in Salamanca, Spain. After that I will continue my studies at the Graduate Institute for International and Development studies in Geneva with a Master in International Economics.
I have active in the organisation of Model United Nations and is a member of GIMUN, an ECOSOC accredited NGO. This study trip is part of GIMUN’s NGO activites.
After being selected as Under Secretary-General for the Global Model UN, the first ever simulation organised by the UN itself, and participating in a workshop at the UN in New York, I fell in love with the Big Apple. I am therefore looking forward to share my experience with the city, and the UN in particular, with you, young and dynamic students participating in this study trip. I am sure we will have an unforgettable time!

I have finished a Master in European Union studies after having had a very intensive and intercultural life in Salamanca while pursuing my Bachelor studies in Political Sciences (University of Salamanca) and in Journalism (Pontificia University). I’m convinced the most productive way of working, researching and studying nowadays is in a multicultural environment and, even if Salamanca gave me this opportunity I decided to do an Erasmus- year in Germany (LMU Munich). After finishing my first degree and before doing the EU studies I wanted to see Europe from outside, so I studied for a year at Waseda University (Tokyo) the Japanese language and culture –and outside the university the unique lifestyle and society of a metropolis like Tokyo. This autumn I will begin a MA in International affairs at The New School of New York.
The trip to NY will give me the opportunity to know new people to exchange knowledge, perceptions, experiences and, of course, have fun with, in the marvellous city of New York. Looking forward to meet you!
