● | During our three week trip, you will receive a differentiated insight into the cultural, economical and political situation in the “pearl of Africa”, situated on the northern shore of Lake Victoria. On site, we will receive first hand knowledge from several experts. The Minister of Internal Affairs, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, led the negotiations with the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). He will give us his impressions of the rebel movement und discuss further challenges of the current political situation. Furthermore, we will follow a parliamentary debate and meet representatives from the governing party NRM and the opposition. During our visit to the province Gulu, the former stronghold of the rebels, we will get a first hand look at the reconstruction work of NGO’s, and meet provincial leaders as well as students. At the University of Makerere, we will get an insight into the daily life of Ugandan students. Furthermore, we will examine different concepts and understandings of human rights and democracy in discussions with the local students. We will take a look at the work of local NGO’s, and peace and development initiatives. We will become acquainted with development programs and speak to representatives about successes and drawbacks. Furthermore, we will assist in the daily work of a development organization. During our stay in Uganda, you will have enough time to enjoy the cultural and social diversity as well as the adventurous African landscape. You will furthermore have the unique possibility to partake in a two day safari in the beautiful Murchison Falls National Park. During an early morning boat tour and game drive, we will be able to see hippos, lions, giraffes and other exotic animals. An exciting, adventurous and unique experience is guaranteed. The participants will receive further information regarding the program as well as the cultural, political and economical history of Uganda shortly before the trip. The trip is intended for those of you who have an interest in Africa and who want to experience the three unforgetable weeks in a small group. No previous knowledge is necessary. |
