  • Inputs by local socio-economic expert on Southern Italian economies in a EU context, and emerging opportunities through social innovation
  • Lunch with local students/guides in small groups and guided tours of the city centre, free time to explore the city individually

  • Exploration of the Sanità neighbourhood (location of our hostel) and visits to the Catacombe San Gennaro (tombs dating back to the 2nd Century) guided by local youth employed through a local association, which also manages our hostel
  • Visit to Roma community restaurant in disadvantaged neighbourhood Scampia (known through book & movie Gomorrah by Roberto Saviano) with musical performances by Roma-Napolitanian band and buffet, discussion with restaurant workers

  • Visit to confiscated Mafia land and villa, now managed by a social cooperative and transformed into an organic agricultural production site, restaurant and work integration project for disadvantaged people

  • Prison project visit to Caffè Lazzarelle in Pozzuoli women’s prison, coffee degustation and discussion with women workers and project directors
  • Free afternoon
  • Overnight ferry to Palermo

  • Arrival at Palermo port in the morning, settling into hostel and free time to relax or explore the city individually
  • Multicultural Palermo afternoon – meetings with immigrant communities and projects, guided tours through African neighbourhoods, traditional markets, multicultural lunch, artisanry and Sicilian/African music

  • Meeting with „Addio Pizzo“ (“goodbye racket”) activists, inputs on the history and present of the Mafia and Antimafia movements in Palermo
  • Guided tour of the city “Palermo Pizzofree” to the sites of the Antimafia struggle
  • Free afternoon to go to the beach, relax or explore the city individually

Alto Belice Corleonese
  • Transfer to Alto Belice Corleonese, visit to Centopassi organic wine farm (established on confiscated Mafia land)
  • Lunch at Agriturismo Portello della Ginestra (also a confiscated good) with locally grown, organic products and inputs on importance of land and agriculture in Sicilian society
  • Transfer to Corleone in the afternoon, settling into Agriturismo Terre di Corleone and dinner

  • Free morning to explore the surrounding areas, hike, or swim in the nearby waterholes
  • Lunch at Agriturismo and inputs on its history (the building and surrounding land is a confiscated Mafia premise of famous boss Totò Riina)
  • Visit to the Antimafia Documentation Centre in Corleone in the afternoon with discussions on the myths and realities of “The Godfather”.

  • Wrap-up sessions and discussions after breakfast, transfer back to Palermo, end of the trip.
