  • Our study trip starts at 11am with a welcome lunch in our central Jakarta hotel (we advise you to arrive some days earlier in Asia to acclimatize)
  • City tour: visit old Jakarta “Batavia”, a selection of museums (Bank Museum, Wayang Museum, Ship Museum) and Glodok (Chinatown).

During 11.08. and 12.08. about eight meetings will be organized to give you a broad insight into Indonesia’s political, economic and social situation and challenges:

  • Swiss Embassy (Indonesia from a Swiss perspective)
  • Cekindo (investing in Indonesia)
  • ASEAN
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • and others...

In between, we relax in Taman Mini Indonesia (a culture-based recreational area with collections of Indonesian architecture, clothing, dances and traditions) and visit the National Museum/Merdeka Square.

  • Morning: Yogyakarta city center (Kraton: sultan’s palace, including traditional performance, and Taman Sari: water palace, making of Batik)
  • Afternoon: Borobudur & Prambanan temples

  • Transfer to Malang by private bus (7h driving time) with stops in Surakarta (Kraton), Candi Sukuh, Sewu waterfall and Batu hot springs
  • Join your homestay in Malang for the weekend (local family with an English-speaking student)

  • Free morning in Malang, activity with your host family or optional biking in Malang’s surroundings
  • Lunch altogether at Sekar’s home, pre-celebrations of Indonesia’s Independence Day with fun competitions in the neighborhood
  • Brawijaya university meeting, Malang town stroll, Apero at Hotel Tugu and dinner together with the host students

  • Time with your host family

  • Transfer to Ijen Plateau by private bus (5h driving time)
  • Visit a coffee plantation & hot springs

Ijen-Pemuteran
  • Hike up to Ijen crater together with sulphur miners (medium-level 3h return hike)
  • Transfer to Pemuteran, Bali, with a stop in Baluran National Park if time allows

  • Snorkling Day Trip to Menjangan Island, one of Bali’s best reefs (Diving optional)
  • Meeting about marine environment in Indonesia

Bali (Mountains)
  • See rice terraces, lakes and waterfalls in the lush Bali Mountains while driving through Munduk, Danau Bratan and Danau Batur
  • Hike up Mount Batur (medium-level 3h return hike, if weather allows) and/or play with the monkeys in Ubud
  • Enjoy two nights in Dekuta Hotel (provided availability)

  • Morning: Short scooter or taxi sightseeing tour around Southern Bali & maybe a meeting in Denpasar
