We will begin the first evening with a brief Swahili-crash course and a basic introduction to Tanzania (with facts and current governmental projects) |

City Tour, Swiss embassy, Ministry for Youths and Culture
On the second day, a city tour with a private bus will introduce us to buzzing Dar es Salaam. We will also visit the Swiss embassy to gain an understanding of the Swiss –Tanzanian relations and already wet our appetite for the next day's program with a visit at the Ministry for Youths and Culture. |

SOS children's village, Watoto Wetu Tanzania, meeting youths, Youth Friendly Service
The third day includes a visit at the SOS children's village Dar es Salaam and Watoto Wetu Tanzania's orphanage. The orphanages shall enlighten the differences of local and foreign support for vulnerable children and youths and the advantages or difficulties that come along. Representatives of the orphanages will show the group around and there will be room for discussions. We also plan to have a discussion with youths currently or formerly living at orphanages as well as meeting the Youth Friendly Service, a group of formerly vulnerable young adults who now work with youths in the surrounding districts. |

Bagamoyo (with expert on history)
On day four, we will travel to Bagamoyo and explore this historical coastal city. Bagamoyo is known for being a center of Tanzania's art and the city has been shaped by its important role during colonial rule and the Arabian slave trade. We will visit the former slave-market (now art market), colonial sights, port and the catholic mission with its colonial museum. Moreover, an expert on history will help us gain a deeper understanding of Tanzania's history and what legacies exploitation has left in the country. |

10.08.2014 Masaai Village/Arusha |
Maasai village, tourism-critical meeting
We will visit a Masaai village to gain an impression of the Maasai's very traditional culture and of the Tanzanian village life in general. A tourism-critical meeting in the evening will then help us reflect our own role as tourists. |

East African Community, African Court of Human Rights
On the seventh day, we visit the East African Community (EAC) where we will have a tour and a discussion with ministers. We then continue with a visit at the African Court of Human Rights and in the afternoon, you will have free time to explore the inner-city of Arusha-town yourself. |

University of Dar es Salaam, meeting students, meeting a journalist, Benjamin Mkapa Economic Zone
We will visit the University of Dar es Salaam, which is ranked 4th among the best universities in Africa, and meet students as well as a freelance journalist for further talks about politics and economics. The Benjamin Mkapa Economic Zone is an institution for attracting foreign investment to Tanzania and will therefore enable us insights into the economic development of the country. |

Legal & Human Rights Centre, Women's Legal Aid Centre, Media Council of Tanzania
This day will make us understand the political, legal and social landscape of Tanzania. We will visit the Legal & Human Rights Centre that detects and reports human rights violations in Tanzania and learn about the situation of women in the country at the Women's Legal Aid Centre. A visit at the Media Council of Tanzania will then address freedom of press and the Tanzanian media landscape. |

15.08.2014 Zanzibar (Stonetown) |
Stonetown
The last few days of the trip will be spent on Zanzibar, a semi-autonomous island that belongs to the United Republic of Tanzania. The ferry from Dar es Salaam port takes us to Zanzibar's Stonetown where will have a guided tour through the winding alleys. |

Zanzibar Legal Services Centre, beach/Stonetown
We will visit the Zanzibar Legal Services Centre, the pendant to the Legal and Human Rights Centre of the mainland, to gain a better understanding of the worldwide extraordinary semi-autonomous relations between the Tanzanian mainland and the government of Zanzibar. There will also be the optional possibility to visit a beach nearby Stonetown or to spend the rest of the day exploring Stonetown's inner-city on one's own. |

We take the ferry back to Dar es Salaam. In the evening, we will have a delicious joint farewell dinner. |

Prepatory meetings |
There will be two prepatory meetings in Switzerland prior to the trip. During these meetings we will already get to know each other and prepare ourselves for the study trip. |
